Kirby Smart Addresses Fans Pushing For Georgia To Wear Black Jerseys vs. Auburn

Cox/Getty Images)No. 5 Georgia football has a big game against rival Auburn this weekend, and some fans of the Bulldogs are calling for the team to mix it up on the uniform front.Georgia has a set of rarely-worn black uniforms that look awesome, but obviously aren’t the traditional look for the Dawgs.The team last wore them during Kirby Smart’s first season in Athens, during a game against Louisiana-Lafayette.With the Tigers coming to town, a number of Georgia fans and some members of the media have tweeted #BlackoutAuburn in a push for the unis to come out of the closet.Georgia famously wore the black uniforms during a game against Auburn in 2007, and blasted the Tigers 45-20.Kirby Smart was asked about the black Georgia football uniforms this weekend, and seemed to shoot down the idea.According to UGA Wire, Smart said “I don’t think you need energy and enthusiasm for Auburn,” when asked about the possibility of wearing the alternate uniforms to get fans excited.Sounds like no black jerseys on Saturday night, per Kirby Smart, who is quite bemused at the fan interest in it but not in the media’s interest: “I’ll let you guys get the hits and the likes on that.”— Seth Emerson (@SethWEmerson) November 6, 2018Earlier this year, the Georgia football equipment account tweeted a picture of the black uniforms leading some to think they might make an appearance this year.Based on Smart’s answer, it doesn’t sound like it is in the cards this week.[UGA Wire]last_img
