Peru Advances in Copa América after Suárez Misses Penalty

first_imgSALVADOR, Brazil (AP) — Underdogs Peru advanced to the semifinals of Copa América on Saturday after a goalless draw and a penalty shootout miss from Uruguay striker Luis Suárez.Peru’s next opponent will be defending champion Chile, who eliminated Colombia also on penalties Friday night. The match will take place Wednesday at the Arena do Grêmio in Porto Alegre.Brazil and Argentina will face off Tuesday in Belo Horizonte for the other spot in the July 7 final at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.Suárez was the only player to miss from the spot and left the field in tears.Edison Flores scored Peru’s last goal in the 5-4 penalty shootout win.Goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, who was under severe criticism after Peru was routed 5-0 by Brazil a week ago, saved Suárez shot with his belly and decided the match for the Peruvians.“He is a goalkeeper that always appears in the important moments,” said Peru coach Ricardo Gareca.Peru got through the group as one of the top two teams finishing third place. Its only win in four matches was a 3-1 against weak Bolivia.Peru’s goalkeeper Pedro Gallese stops a penalty shot during a Copa America quarterfinal soccer match against Uruguay at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, Brazil, Saturday, June 29, 2019. (AP Photo/Eraldo Peres)The match in Salvador offered few opportunities for both teams and was played under rain in the entire first half. Only 21,000 fans were at the 48,000-seater Arena Fonte Nova to watch.Uruguay, the team that has won the most Copa Américas, with 15 titles, created the best opportunities during the 90 minutes, but the goals scored by Giorgian De Arrascaeta, Edinson Cavani and Suárez were disallowed by offside.Coach Óscar Tabárez started the match with two of his most aggressive midfielders, Federico Valverde and Giorgian de Arrascaeta, hoping to take advantage of Peru’s defensive troubles during group stage. But those problems were not there anymore for the knockout stage match.“Soccer is not about deserving. They took their penalty shots better,” said Uruguayan defender Diego Godín. “Three goals disallowed. We missed the efficiency to score that goal that would have opened the match.”Coach Tabárez agreed. “Nothing was done against the rules,” he said. After winning Copa América 2011 in Argentina, Uruguay failed to get out of the group in the 2015 and the 2016 editions. The team known as the Celeste advanced to the quarterfinals after beating Chile 1-0, winning Group C and leaving the impression it could fight for the title again. The Peruvians netted all their penalties against goalkeeper Fernando Muslera. Paolo Guerrero, Raúl Ruidíaz, Yoshimar Yotún, Luis Advíncula and Flores got it right from the spot. After Suárez missed, Cavani, Cristhian Stuani, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Torreira converted their shots for Uruguay.Peru’s Gareca said his team deserved to advance because of its will power. His top goal scorer Paolo Guerrero agreed.“We have shown that this group has the will, the blood and the courage,” the striker said.Peru could not count on injured midfielder Jefferson Farfán, one of the most important players of his squad. The match in Salvador marked the third goal less draw in the quarterfinals of Copa América in Brazil. The only goals of this phase were scored in Argentina’s 2-0 victory against Venezuela.Players once more suffered with the poor pitch of the Arena Fonte Nova, filled with bare patches and uneven regions.Poor fields have been a constant complaint during Copa América in Brazil. In the Copa América semifinals there will be extra time if the matches finish in a tie. In the quarterfinals stage the decision went straight to the penalty shootouts if the teams ended level after 90 minutes.___By MAURICIO SAVARESE AP Sports WriterTweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img read more

The driver, in custody, told police he had not driven into the crowd on purpose, according to a footage published on the Moscow police website.Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in a post on Twitter: “There was an unpleasant incident with a taxi. The driver lost control of the vehicle.”The city’s police said they had opened a criminal investigation into a suspected violation of the traffic code., pic.twitter.com/fwX8N6XBSD¯\_()_/¯ (@JuliaScherbet) 16 June 2018The police said seven people were injured in the incident. Moscow city’s healthcare department said earlier that eight had been hurt and taken to hospital, of whom seven were in a satisfactory condition, while one woman was seriously hurt. The Mexican embassy in Moscow said two Mexican women had been lightly injured. Also among those hurt were a Ukrainian, two Russians and two citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia’s RIA news agency quoted a source in the emergency services as saying.advertisement2018 FIFA WORLD CUP: FULL FIXTURESVideo of the incident posted on social media showed the yellow Hyundai taxi pull sharply out of a line of stationary traffic, accelerate and mount the narrow pavement, which was packed with pedestrians. Police officers, investigators and members of emergency services at the accident site (CCTV footage grab/Reuters)The taxi drove for about 10 metres along the pavement, bowling over pedestrians and carrying some on the bonnet of the car. It came to a halt after hitting a traffic sign.As bystanders tried to pull open the driver’s side door, the driver, dressed in black trousers and black T-shirt, jumped out and sprinted away. More bystanders chased him and could be seen trying to tackle him as the footage ended.MEXICO SOCCER MATCHA witness told Reuters that some of the people hit were wearing Mexican team colours. Mexico take on Germany on Sunday in their first World Cup match at Moscow’s Luzhniki stadium, and thousands of Mexican fans are in the Russian capital.A second witness told Reuters about the driver of the taxi: “He was pulled out of the vehicle, he ran off but bystanders apprehended him. He was shouting: ‘It wasn’t me’.”Another witness, Viktoria Geraimovich, said she called emergency services on her mobile phone. She said the driver “ran into a group of Mexicans. There were shouts, moans. He was only stopped because he hit a traffic sign.””Someone gave him a punch in the face. He stayed in the car, people came up to him, said what are you doing, punched him in the face, he opened the door and tried to run away.””It’s scary that it was in the centre (of Moscow) and I was right opposite,” she said.Moscow’s traffic management authority said the driver was not drunk and Interfax news agency cited a source saying there was no alcohol in his blood. The driver said he wanted to brake but accidentally hit the accelerator instead, according to a video published by police.”I regret very much… I wanted to go home afterwards, to have a sleep,” he said. The driver said he had been working for 20 hours by the time the incident happened. Asked why he ran away, he said he was afraid he would be killed after bypassers beat him.A court will hold a sentencing hearing on Monday, TASS reported.Authorities have vowed a safe soccer World Cup, which Russia is hosting for the first time ever. It is taking place in 11 cities until July 15.In central Moscow, authorities have installed heavy concrete blocks across the entrances to pedestrian areas following a spate of incidents in European cities in which vehicles were used to mow down people. The U.S. State Department on Friday updated its travel advice on Russia, saying terrorist groups were plotting attacks.”Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and local government facilities,” the travel advice stated.advertisementDRIVER’S LICENCEThe Moscow traffic authority posted on Twitter a copy of what it said was the taxi driver’s licence. There was nothing on the page to suggest any links to, or sympathies with, Islamist militant groups.People walking around in central Moscow on Saturday evening said they were aware of the taxi incident, but it did not put them off spending time in the city. The streets were packed with people listening to street musicians perform, or sitting at pavement cafes.”We’re not scared but disappointed,” said Youseff Fraige, 27, from Monterrey, Mexico.”We didn’t expect something like this to happen in a place like this. It could happen anywhere in the world, but that it happens here in Moscow, in the middle of the World Cup, it’s shocking for us.”(Report courtesy: Reuters)last_img read more

LG V40 ThinQ has a cool Cine Shot mode built right into its three cameras

first_imgLG will unveil its flagship device LG V40 ThinQ at a special event in New York on October 3. Ahead of the official launch, the company has been busy sharing teaser videos of its upcoming smartphone. Last week, the company revealed that the phone will sport five cameras. And now, the Korean electronics giant has revealed another interesting bit of intel about its V35 successor. The upcoming LG V40 ThinQ will have a cool Cine Shot mode built right into its triple cameras that will let users capture cinemagraphs using their phone. For reference, cinemagraphs are small video clips like GIFs wherein only one part of the image is moving while rest is stationary. To capture a cinemagraph using the LG V40 ThinQ, users need to select the Cine Shot mode in their camera apps and tap on the Record button to capture a three-second long video. Once the video has been recorded, users will automatically be prompted to an editing screen where they can select the region they want moving in the video. There is also an eraser tool if the selected area is more than the region that users want to keep moving.Users can also select if they want the selected region move forward or backward. Once the editing is done, the video is saved in full HD resolution in MP4 file format, Slash Gear noted.Notably, users will have to be extremely still while capturing the video. Also, they will have to edit the clip immediately after capturing it as there seems to be no provision to edit it later.advertisementMeanwhile, earlier this week we got a glimpse as to how the five cameras in LG’s upcoming smartphone work. As per the images shared by tipster Evan Blass, LG’s upcoming V-series flagship device will sport a regular shooter, a wide angle camera and a telephoto camera at the back. As far as the front camera set is concerned, the phone will sport a regular shooter and a wide angle lens in the front.ALSO READ: New leaks show how five cameras in LG V40 ThinQ workWhile there is no confirmation regarding the specific details yet, but if rumours are to believed, the phone could come with a 16MP shooter along with a 12MP wide-angle lens and 12MP telephoto lens at the back and an 8MP and a 5MP camera in the front.last_img read more

Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar look to imbibe qualities of longetivity and passion from Dhoni, Kohli

first_imgJasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have become India’s premier fast bowling combination in all formats in the past year or so. The duo has been crucial to India’s dominating performances in one-day cricket and has successfully followed it up with Test cricket success.Along with addressing India’s new and old ball fast bowling problems, Bumrah turned out to be an instant hit with red ball too in South Africa. He hurried batsmen with lifting balls delivered with his unique action. Bhuvneshwar too has added extra yards of pace to his bowling in Test cricket.Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar had a conversation with India Today on their evolution as individuals and Indian cricket’s pace explosion on the sidelines of an Asics event. Excerpts…Q: Fast bowlers hunt in pairs is an old adage. Jasprit, the two of you have proved it right across formats, haven’t you?Bumrah: It’s always very beneficial when you have an experienced partner at the other end. It’s always very important when you are creating pressure as a unit, I have always told that.Pressure from both ends is the key. At the end we both learn from each other with constant communication. I must say it’s always a good feeling to have an experienced bowler by your side.WATCH FULL INTERVIEWQ: Bhuvi, tell us how you have evolved as a bowler, adding variations to your one day bowling and extra yards of pace in Test cricket?Bhuvneshwar: It’s started when South Africa came here in 2016. That’s when I added some pace. But the series didn’t go well for me. I managed to add some pace to my game but didn’t realise with additional pace you have to change a few other things; have to add variations. When I got some time off after that series, I worked with local coaches and team coaches who helped me to change a few things which are needed when you add pace.advertisementAs to adding variations to my white ball bowling, ever since I started playing IPL, I realised you need variations. You can’t survive on line and length. You need coaches around you who can guide you to get there. I have been lucky that I have had seniors and coaches who have helped me get there. It feels good when these things work.Q: Those extra yards of pace have helped your Test bowling?Bhuvneshwar: In India there is not much swing, just a bit of reverse swing. So it’s never effective with reverse swing unless you improve pace. So I always wanted to improve pace but never knew how to do that. So working with the trainers helped me achieve that. Also read – Every India pacer is capable of bowling 140 kmph, says Jasprit BumrahQ: Jasprit, much before you made your India debut in Australia for the one-dayers, people had seen you trouble batsmen in IPL. But to develop this ability to bowl yorkers at will, what’s the process behind that?Bumrah: People have seen me bowl in IPL. But I got wickets before that from first class cricket and there I have learnt a lot. That gives you a lot of confidence. IPL is t20 format but first class is four day cricket and one day matches. So there is a lot more to learn. When you get into international cricket with the confidence from combination of first class cricket and IPL, it is very beneficial.Q: Yes you did well in Ranji trophy for Gujarat. But still did you surprise yourself with the instant success you found in Test match cricket? How did you discover the Test match length so quickly?Bumrah: If I say, I surprised myself that would be a wrong answer to say. Because if I don’t believe in myself than who else will? For me it was always very important to play Test cricket and for that I was able to discover that self confidence. And that was because of first class cricket. Because that year we had won the Ranji trophy for Gujarat as well. That build up to South Africa was very important because I had taken wickets in Ranji trophy. All of that allowed me to adapt to the conditions in South Africa even though they were little different from India.Q: Micheal Holding observed on air that you can add a few extra strides to bowling run up to avoid strain on your body. Has anyone come upto you with this idea or have you ever considered it?advertisementBumrah: I am not thinking too much about that. I am not focused on what he has said. It’s ok, some people have some different observations. I have been looking to do whatever is comfortable for my own body. If I am not facing any difficulty, I don’t want to tinker or change anything. If I have a problem in the future, than I will cross the bridge when I get there.Q: Bhuvi, who is the most difficult batsman you have bowled against?Bhuvneshwar: I have always said the most difficult batsman to bowl against is the man who is in form. You may have seen the best batsmen get out early when they are not in form but an in form batsman is difficult to dismiss. So form is the key. Also read – Australia tour will be challenging even without Smith and Warner: Bhuvneshwar KumarQ: Can the both of you tell us one thing there is to learn from each other’s bowling. Jasprit, what do you look to learn from Bhuvi?Bumrah: He has played a lot of cricket. What I always look to learn from him is his control. He can bowl any ball that he wants in any given situation. That is his biggest asset as a bowler. Now a days with the game going so fast, if you have accuracy, you have control, you can tackle any situation. That’s what I also want to learn to develop – great control.Q: Bhuvi, what impresses you about Bumrah?Bhuvneshwar: His variations is what impress me. Of course his length ball goes quicker than any other bowler in the team currently. But when he bowls slower ones and yorkers, those are totally different than anyone else. That’s because of his unique action. I have seen him in the IPL, what he was when he started and what he is now is totally different. That’s because of his hard work.Q: Jasprit, how do you look at competition for places in Indian fast bowling? The two of you, Ishant with his experience, Shami with his movement, Umesh got a 10 wkt haul recently…Bumrah: It’s very good when you have a good fast bowling unit. Everybody has a good rapport with each other. All of us are always together discussing plans. And everybody is quick nowadays. No one is medium pace and everybody is able to clock 140’s. It’s a very good time for Indian cricket. And we learn from each other. Everybody has a different quality and not everybody is the same. It’s a very good sign. We keep learning from each other and keep developing. Also read – Any bowler can get injured, bowling action not a problem: Jasprit BumrahQ: Bhuvi, Australia is next. How do you look at the prospects of delivering in Australia. Will the fact that wickets there have become do not have as much swing be a challenge on personal front?Bhuvneshwar: It’s a challenge for sure. If you look at it for the past few years, away from home, it has become easier to bat rather than in sub continent. It’s more difficult for bowlers so it will be a challenge. But we know if we do well in. Australia it will be preparations for England (World Cup).advertisementQ: What about the Test matches?Bhuvneshwar: There will be challenges. But not thinking about them too much. We have to play white ball cricket next against West Indies. Than when we go to Australia, we will have few practice matches and net sessions. Accordingly I will plan things that can help me.Q: Jasprit, is the team not thinking, no Warner, no Smith, this is our chance?Bumrah: We don’t think like that. We are not focussing on those things. And my philosophy is whenever you get there, plan accordingly. You think about the conditions and what’s it going to be there like but look to prepare when you actually get there.Q: Next year will be a World Cup year. Jasprit, it will be your first. Bhuvi, you went to Australia last time, but that’s didn’t go as well personally. Surely, one eye on it?Bumrah: World Cup is too far. One step at a time has always been my philosophy.Bhuvneshwar: The ultimate aim is to play and do well in the World Cup. But like Jasprit said can’t think too far ahead. Focus is on West Indies, Australia and New Zealand. If we start thinking about the World Cup now, it’s possible that we will lose focus from what we have to achieve before that.Playing series against West Indies and against Australia and New Zealand is going to help our World Cup plans.Q: Jasprit, talking about areas of improvement. You have lost a few wickets to no balls. Something you are working on?Bumrah: I don’t want to talk about that. But ya, you always look to keep improving and developing new things.Q: Let’s close this interview by talking about the two big names in your side Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. One thing you would want to add to your cricket from Virat and Dhoni?Bhuvneshwar: There is one thing to learn from both of them which is the passion that have playing for India for all these years. Having done it for so long is not an easy thing. Both have different style of batting and captainship but both have one thing in common which is their passion. When you talk and spend time with them that’s what comes out and one gets to learn from.Bumrah: Both are legends of the game. But I would want my own identity. I would always want to learn from them how they have contributed for India for so long. But for me my basic aim is to have my own identity.last_img read more

Hardik laughed at me for conceding 50-plus runs in Brisbane: Krunal Pandya

first_imgKrunal Pandya became the third most expensive Indian bowler in a Twenty20 International when he conceded 55 runs without picking a wicket in the first T20 against Australia in Brisbane last week. However, Krunal produced a better performance in the second T20 before his match-winning show in the third T20 that helped India level the series against Australia.Krunal set a new record in the third and final match against Australia on Sunday as he registered the best bowling figures by an Indian in the format on Australian soil.Pandya picked up a four-wicket haul and gave away just 36 runs from his four overs to help India restrict Australia to 164 for 6. Thai junta-linked party descends on Shinawatra stronghold

first_imgBangkok, Dec 23 (AFP) A political party tied to Thailand’s junta took its message of stability and development to the backyard of the ousted Shinawatra clan Sunday, as leaders dash to connect with voters ahead of an election in February. The junta this month lifted a ban on political campaigning that had been in place since 2014, when the army kicked out the administration of Yingluck Shinawatra, and the race is now on to shore up votes. The military-backed Palang Pracharat party held a meeting in the northern city of Chiang Mai intended to reveal the names of candidates running for office.Thailand’s rural northern heartland has long been a bastion of support for Yingluck and her brother Thaksin — who was himself ousted in 2006 — thanks to welfare schemes and farming subsidies.Chiang Mai is even more symbolic as it is the hometown of the brother-sister political duo, both of whom live in self-exile to avoid what they say are politically motivated convictions.Speaking at a provincial sports stadium, officials from Palang Pracharat, which was started by members of the junta cabinet, presented the party as a new option to bridge Thailand’s divides.”We cannot let the country walk in the old footsteps. We need to become the third choice who can change politics,” said party secretary general and current minister of commerce Sontirat Sontijirawong in a meeting streamed live on Facebook.Palang Pracharat is up against a number of challengers, including Yingluck’s former party Pheu Thai and newcomer Future Forward, which is hoping to lure the youth vote.advertisementParties loyal to the Shinawatras have won every Thai general election since 2001, but both star leaders are outside the country.Junta leader Prayut Chan-O-Cha has repeatedly insisted that he has no interest in politics. But he has spent the last few months criss-crossing the country, building alliances with local politicians, and offering handouts. He has also attempted to show his softer side to the public through photo ops and public appearances.Palang Pracharat party leader Uttama Savanayana, who is also the minister of industry, made a thinly veiled reference to Prayut as a potential next leader.”We want to overcome conflict, I know you know there is a man who will guide us through the conflict, and in time he will reveal himself,” Uttama told the audience. But no matter the outcome in February critics say Thailand will not return to full democracy.A new charter embeds government policy for the next 20 years, enshrines a hand-picked upper house and the possibility of an appointed prime minister. We will do our best to find out the causes of defeat by holding an in-depth inquiry,” Mani said.Pakistan was whitewashed by the South Africans and before that they lost a three-match Test series to New Zealand in the UAE by 1-2.A well-informed source in the board told PTI that Mani had already spoken to the head of the cricket committee, Mohsin Khan and asked him to meet with his committee members and prepare a report on what they felt went wrong in the Test matches. The cricket committee also includes former captains, Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq and former national women’s team skipper, Urooj Mumtaz.Though the cricket committee can only recommend and make suggestions to the Chairman but the source said that they had been closely watching the performances of the Pakistan team and had some reservations over some selections and other issues.advertisementPakistan bounced back in the first match of the five-match one-day international series, winning by five wickets on Saturday.Mani also said that the PCB was paying a lot of attention to the national women’s team and providing more facilities and structure for women’s cricket. He said efforts were being made to encourage more girls to take up the game and also bring in new players into the national side.He also made it clear that national sports federations needed to understand that sports cant be run through just government funding and these federations also needed to get sponsorship from big corporates and banks and build up their resources. Also Watch:last_img read more

first_imgTerming Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as his ideal, boxer-turned-politician Vijender Singh has said he is impressed by the simplicity of the Congress general secretary in whom he sees glimpses of her grandmother Indira Gandhi.Singh, who will be making his electoral debut from south Delhi Lok Sabha constituency in Delhi as a Congress candidate termed his rivals – BJP’s old-timer Ramesh Bidhuri as “not a good person’ and AAP’s Raghav Chadha a ‘bachcha’.Singh said he idolises Priyanka Gandhi and admires her simplicity.”I like Priyankaji and her simplicity. The way she walks, the way she talks, there is a reflection of Indira Gandhiji. She has impressed me,” he said. The boxer-turned-politician said there is no competition with other candidates and said he will not lie to the people.”There is no competition with the candidates. I will put forth my thing and won’t lie. I am the son of a bus driver who belongs to a family of farmers. I started from zero and have only now started staying in Vasant Kunj,” he told PTI.Talking about his rival candidates he said, “People do not like the current MP (Bidhuri) since he is a bad person. Rahi baat us bachche ki (referring to Chadha), I don’t know about him.”People are fed up with Arvind Kejriwal and his false promises. They could have done so much for the poor but they were involved in ‘dharna’ politics from AC rooms.”He attacked the AAP and said it is in a “bad condition” and was after the Congress for an alliance.advertisementThe 33-year-old pugilist said the AAP had promised that school education would be made state of the art and there would be clean water but students did not have school to go after Class 8 and “everybody knows the cost of water tankers”.”The Congress had gone down after AAP emerged in Delhi but now we have several youngsters who are with the party and the party has formed a team and regrouped. In Delhi, we have Sheila Dikshit at the helm and we are confident,” he said. While Singh might be a debutant, he said he is aware aboutAlso read | Star campaigners put up big road shows to floor votersAlso read | Will let my work do the talking, says Vijender SinghAlso watch | Sports is my identity, will not leave boxing, says Vijender Singh after joining Congressthe issues in his constituency and said his endeavour will be to end the “atmosphere of fear” prevailing in the constituency, which holds an important place in the power centre of Delhi. It has also been represented by the likes of veteran leaders like Sushma Swaraj and Madan Lal Khurana.”Every constituency has different problems. South Delhi is facing the issues of illegal construction, encroachment and sealing. Small businessmen are being illegally targeted and their properties are being encroached upon.”The middle class is scared of the current government and there is an atmosphere of fear. I want to end that atmosphere of fear and also ensure wherever sports facilities are needed, they are provided there,” he said.Singh, who belongs to Haryana, said Delhi needs him while asserting that he wants a “good future for his family which stays in south Delhi”.Singh, who has received offers for joining politics earlier also, said he joined the Congress since he agreed with their ideology as it focused on the youth.”You go there where your thoughts match and there is no point in being somewhere which you do not connect to. I was busy with my fights but I was in touch with Modiji, Priyankaji and Rahulji. I chose Congress because it talks for the youth and their issues like employment,” Singh said.He said the party does not talk about “fake nationalism” and does not indulge in “jhooth ki rajneeti” which is at all-time high currently.Singh said there was no Modi wave this time and said the common man was concerned about issues and not the fact about what was done to Pakistan.”There is no Modi wave. You might feel there is a Modi wave because of the big banners and hoarding everywhere which show a smiling face but if you look at that face closely, the reality will be different,” he said.Singh, who is a youth icon, said he will reach out to youngsters through social media and said the doors of his house will always be open for people.last_img read more

OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T will get Zen Mode via update, new NightScape from OnePlus 7 Pro not coming

first_imgThe OnePlus 7 Pro brings a lot of new stuff to the table in terms of hardware – whether it be the gorgeous 90Hz display or the monstrous chipset. However, OnePlus has also tweaked is custom Oxygen OS and added some new feature to offer a superior user experience with the phone. Two major features that we found helped improve the experience over the previous iteration of Oxygen OS are NightScape 2.0 and Zen Mode. And there’s update on this front for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T users. In a conversation with Android Authority, the OnePlus team has confirmed that the Zen Mode will make its way to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. The Zen Mode is OnePlus’ take on Google’s Digital Wellbeing and offers even stricter methods for getting your own short sessions of digital detoxing. If you enable the Zen Mode, the phone will lock you out for 20 minutes and will only let you access the camera. It will also allow incoming calls, but that’s it. You won’t be bothered with app notifications and messages for 20 minutes.Once the 20-minutes period is over, the phone congratulates you for your short detox session and unlocks it. If you think the Zen Mode is too harsh, the OnePlus 7 Pro also gets the Digital Wellbeing app found on Pixel phones and Android One devices. If you use a OnePlus 6 or OnePlus 6T and were expecting something similar on your devices, wait patiently as OnePlus will roll out the Zen Mode update in the future.advertisementHowever, one feature that could have actually made a difference to the OnePlus 6 series phones is NightScape 2.0 and sadly, that isn’t coming to the older models. OnePlus gave a reason for that as well, stating, “Because of a hardware limitation, Nightscape 2.0 will remain exclusive to the 7 series.”The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro sport a 48-megapixel Sony sensor for the primary camera. The Sony IMX586 uses Pixel Binning to capture more light and produce photos with more detailed shots in 12-megapixel resolution. It is highly possible that NightScape 2.0 relies on the hardware advancements of the Sony IMX586 sensor and it couldn’t replicate the same results on the OnePlus 6’s older 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel Sony sensors. These new additions to Oxygen for the older OnePlus 6 series phones matter, especially for the OnePlus 6T. Despite launching the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, a new media report states OnePlus will conduct an experiment and will continue to sell the OnePlus 6T for the time being. Rumours even suggest that the OnePlus 6T can be had for a sub-Rs 30,000 price, given that the OnePlus 7 starts at Rs 32,999.ALSO READ | OnePlus 6T vs OnePlus 7: What all is different and why you should now wait for JuneALSO READ | OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro launched: New cameras, new processor, new tech inside, price starts from Rs 32,999ALSO READ | OnePlus 7 Pro review: The OnePlus phone that is near perfectlast_img read more

India look to end Intercontinental Cup with some pride

first_imgOut of reckoning for a berth in the final after two embarrassing defeats, India would look to end the tournament with some pride when they face Syria in the last league match of Intercontinental Cup here Tuesday. After North Korea beat Tajikistan 1-0 on Monday, the match between India and Syria on Tuesday has been rendered inconsequential as far as the home side is concerned. For Syria, however, it will be a must-win game, and a victory over India will take the West Asian country to the summit clash against Tajikistan to be played on July 19.Despite the loss, Tajikistan booked a berth in the final as they have six points and a goal difference of plus three, ahead of North Korea, who have same six points but with a goal difference of plus one.The North Koreans will be hoping India to beat Syria on Tuesday or ar least draw the match, as in that case, they will make it to the final. If Syria beat India, the West Asian side will also have six points and a better goal difference than North Korea, and hence will qualify for the final.Syria have three points and a goal difference of plus one and they just need a simple win against India on Tuesday to qualify for the final. The top two teams will qualify for the final of the four-team tournament. If two or more teams end at same point, the ranking will be decided through goal difference.Croatian Igor Stimac has made changes in the Indian team’s starting eleven more than two dozen times in the four matches at the helm since taking charge as head coach, and he is expected to continue his ‘experiment’ against Syria also.advertisementHe had said earlier that the Intercontinental Cup will be a preparatory platform for the upcoming 2020 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.India began the tournament on a promising note, scoring twice in the first session against Tajikistan through captain Sunil Chhetri but let in four goals in the second half to lose the opening match 2-4. The Indian defence was completely out of sorts, committing mistakes after mistakes. After that disappointing show in the first match, Stimac made nine changes in his starting eleven against North Korea, benching number one goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu for Amrinder Singh and bringing the likes of Udanta Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad only in the second half.Defensive mainstay Sandesh Jhingan started the match but was replaced late in the first half after feeling pain in his leg following a tackle. It is not known whether Jhingan will play against Syria. If he does not play on Tuesday, India will be hit hard in their defence. After North Korea pumped in three goals in the first half, India made a spirited come back in the second session but still lost 2-5 to be virtually out of contention for a berth in the final.Stimac had still said after the heavy loss against North Korea that his players showed “courage and confidence” in the second half.”In the second half, we came out with heads up. We had the courage, and confidence when we decided to play football. In the first half, we played without courage and self-confidence,” he had said.”I gave the players the chance to play for India and asked them to enjoy their football. But if you do not show courage and fight, you cannot win.”In the second half, we started taking responsibility and created chances. We were dangerous in front of their goal. But it was difficult to keep shape and go up and down continuously. But I’m proud of the way they played,” he added. Also Read | Sunil Chhetri named AIFF Player of the Year for a record 6th timeAlso See:last_img read more

Ashes 2019: Joe Root ‘bitterly disappointed’ after England lose 1st Test

first_imgEngland captain Joe Root said that the team will wait for clarity on veteran pacer James Anderson’s condition before deciding on whether to go with Jofra Archer for the next Test or the remainder of the Ashes series.Anderson could only bowl four overs on Day 1 of the first Test before pulling up with a calf injury. While he did bat, Anderson could not take further part in the field with Olly Stone and Archer taking his place in the middle for much of the rest of the Test which England lost by 251 runs.”Hard losing Jimmy early on but these things happen,” said Root in the post-match presentation ceremony. “Not sure (about his status), we have to wait on the scans. Have to see how (Archer) shapes up as well. We don’t have to make any shotgun decisions in terms of selection, its important we’re clear on how we want to go.”The second Test at Lord’s starts on August 14 and Root said that the intervening time will be useful for the squad to regroup and ensure that there is “no hangover” of this defeat. “It gives us a chance to get away, regroup, make sure this doesn’t have a hangover effect,” he said.”(The defeat) does hurt, bitterly disappointing, I thought we played some good cricket but credit to Australia.”The captain wants a response at Lord’s. #Ashes pic.twitter.com/F6dR52HLVlEngland Cricket (@englandcricket) August 5, 2019Root also praised Smith for his twin centuries in the match and Australia for the way they bowled on the fifth day, dismissing England for 146 as they chased a target of 398.advertisement”Two brilliant innings (from Smith), we have to keep working hard on trying to get him out. There was some high-class bowling, we were made to work hard but I think you look further back in the Test match for where we lost it. We didn’t do it for long enough and didn’t take our chance,” he said. Also Read | Steve Smith best Test player in the world: Tim Paine after Australia win Ashes openerAlso Read | Australia win 1st Test at Edgbaston in 18 years after Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon heroicsAlso Read | Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon script victory as Australia go 1-0 up vs Englandlast_img read more

ERNST & GRASSLEY RELEASE STATEMENTS ON FEDERAL SHUTDOWN

first_imgIowa’s Republican U.S. Senators, Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, both blame the Democrats for the shutdown of the Federal Government that began Saturday.Much of the debate surrounds the inability to compromise on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA act, which would allow children of illegal immigrants born in the United States, the opportunity to remain in the U-S.Grassley released a statement that says “If the 2016 presidential election proved anything, it’s that Americans wanted a new way of doing things, and just want their government to work. That’s true in Iowa and the entire country.”He says “It’s disappointing that Democratic leaders chose to vote against legislation that would have kept the government up and running just to make a point about a policy unrelated to government funding.Joni Ernst statement says she doesn’t like funding our federal government from one short-sighted, band-aid bill to another and that we must establish plans to responsibly fund our government long-term.Democrats in turn blame the Trump Administration and an unwillingness to compromise on that issue and others like a proposed border wall with Mexico for the shutdown.last_img read more
